Fairy-tale destinations in Vipiteno: museums & co
Vipiteno Town Hall
The town hall is one of the major destinations in Vipiteno, located only two minutes’ walk from our Hotel Lilie. The town hall offers an astonishing art collection. The council chamber built in Gothic style is one of the most beautiful in South Tyrol.
Vipiteno Multscher and City Museum
This destination is located only ten minutes from our hotel in Vipiteno/Sterzing. At the Multscher and City Museum, located right next to the Parrish church, you can visit the Late Gothic winged altar by the renowned sculptor and painter Hans Multscher from Ulm. This destination in Vipiteno/Sterzing is open for visitors from the beginning of April until the end October.
South Tyrolean Mining Museum
The show mine is located at the valley’s end of Ridanna/Ridnaun next to Vipiteno/Sterzing. Here you can find out all sorts of interesting facts about the 800-year-old history of the Tyrolean mining industry. During a tour, you learn all about the mining history and the extreme working conditions.

Wolfsthurn Castle
Wolfsthurn Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in South Tyrol and one of the most renowned destinations in Vipiteno/Sterzing. The castle is home to the South Tyrolean Museum of Hunting and Fishing with a great variety of collection items.
Reifenstein Castle
One of the top destinations in Vipiteno and environs is Reifenstein Castle, located on a rocky hill southeast of Vipiteno. The castle is one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol and open for visitors from 1st of April to 1st of November. Book yourself a guided tour of about one hour and dive into a long gone time.
Sprechenstein Castle
This destination, also southeast of Vipiteno/Sterzing, is located a little higher than Reifenstein Castle. Sprechenstein Castle was bombed during World War II and restored over the years. Today you can visit this castle only from the outside.

Historic Centre and Torre delle Dodici/Zwölferturm
Our Hotel Lilie is located right in the pedestrian zone, in the historic centre of Vipiteno/Sterzing, in an alley which belongs to one of the most beautiful alleys in the Alps. Here, you find the Zwölferturm Tower or Torre delle Dodici, the trademark of the town and definitely a destination in Vipiteno not to be missed. The tower divides Vipiteno/Sterzing in Old and New Town.
Stanghe Waterfalls in Racines/Ratschings
Not far from Vipiteno, you find the Stanghe waterfalls. The Gilfenklamm gorge following the Jaufenbach river is the setting for this nature spectacle. The thundering waters of Racines river throw themselves down in incredible speed, making for a true sight for eyes and ears. The trail takes you over stairs and hanging bridges right across the Gilfenklamm gorge. What’s so special about this gorge is that it is cut across white marble – a worldwide unique phenomenon.
Burkhardklamm gorge
If you start at the mining museum in Masseria/Maiern in Ridanna/Ridnaun, you reach the Burkhardklamm gorge in about 45 minutes. Follow trail number 9, over bridges and past spectacular platforms with fascinating views of the mountains until you reach Aglsboden. But beware, the spectacular beauty of nature’s play of elements will take your breath away.
